Dals Långed har under det senaste decenniet genomgått en transformation från traditionell bruksort till kulturtätort. Genom detta ”provbo-initiativ” bjuder vi nu in professionella kulturutövare att under en månad testa livet i en miljö där konsten är motorn i samhällsutvecklingen.
Motivering till initiativet
Rapporten Konsten att stanna visar att det har kommit många kreativa till Dals Långed de senaste 11 åren, och att många driver egna företag. De har inte flyttat hit för ett jobb – de har tagit jobbet med sig. Samtidigt vittnar många om att utmaningen på landsbygden är avstånden och behovet av en lokal plattform för att synas.
Genom att erbjuda en ”mjuklandning” med boende, arbetsplats och ett väletablerat kontaktnät, hoppas vi att fler ska upptäcka möjligheterna med Dalsland för kulturskapare. Vi vill visa att den kreativa kraften är en nyckel till ett resilient och växande samhälle.
Vad vi erbjuder i vårt Open Call:
Under en månad, maj 2026, vill vi erbjuda dig ett helhetspaket för att du ska uppleva Dals Långed som ort utifrån ett socialt och professionellt perspektiv.
Boende: Ett bra sätt att lära känna en plats är att bo där.
Arbetsplats: Plats i nischade verkstäder eller delade ateljéer baserat på ditt materialområde.
Community: Introduktion till lokala föreningar, initiativ, kreativa nätverk och andra kulturutövare för att snabbt bli en del av det ”bubblande lokalsamhället”.
Stöd: Genom Mötesplats Steneby kan vi stötta dig i dina kreativa planer och coacha, så kanske just Dals Långed blir ditt hem och plats att verka på.

Förväntningar
Vi vill se att du antar utmaningen att testa Dals Långed med öppna armar – detta är så mycket mer än ett artist in residence. När du söker vill vi se i din ansökan att du har ett genuint intresse av att uppleva Dals Långed som invånare och kreativ utövare. Och kanske till och med för att stanna?
Din ansökan ska innehålla:
⋅ Motivering till varför du vill testa att provbo och arbeta i Dals Långed, max 1 A4.
⋅ CV + referens.
⋅ Vart du bor i dagsläget och om du till exempel har familj/partner.
⋅ Betona vad för arbetsplats du söker och vad du primärt behöver (tex. materialspecifik verkstad, kontorsplats, ateljé mm).
⋅ Är det okej att bli intervjuad och fotograferad (ev. filmad) i slutet av perioden, om din upplevelse?

Bedömning och jurering görs av Mötesplats Stenebys personal – beslut baseras på den person vi anser mest lämpad att testbo och arbeta i Dals Långed, motivering, förutsättningar och vår bästa förmåga (och Dals Långeds) att tillgodose det du söker för. Att inte bli vald är inte ett tecken på att du inte skulle passa på orten.

Vad ingår / inte ingår
Du får ett boende och en arbetsplats samt kontaktperson för att bli inkluderad på orten och coachning av Mötesplats Steneby. Det finns inget arvode, reseersättning eller traktamente.

Varför Dals Långed?

Open Call: Explore your creative professional future in Dals Långed
Can you combine your creative profession with a life in the countryside? We don’t just believe it’s possible – we’ve seen it happen!
Dals Långed has undergone a transformation from a traditional farming town to a cultural center over the past decade. Through this ”trial residence” initiative, we are now inviting professional cultural practitioners to test out life in an environment where art is the engine of social development for a month.
Motivation for the initiative
The report ”Konsten att Stanna” shows that many creative people have come to Dals Långed in the last 11 years, and that many run their own businesses. They have not moved here for a job – they have taken the job with them. At the same time, many testify that the challenge in the countryside is the distances and the need for a local platform to be visible.
By offering a ”soft landing” with accommodation, a workplace and a well-established network of contacts, we hope that more people will discover the opportunities Dalsland offers for cultural creators. We want to show that the creative power is the key to a resilient and growing society.
What we offer in our Open Call:
For one month, May 2026, we want to offer you a comprehensive package for you to experience Dals Långed as a place from a social and professional perspective.
Accommodation: A good way to get to know a place is to live there.
Workplace: Place in niche workshops or shared studios based on your material area.
Community: Introduction to local associations, initiatives, creative networks and other cultural practitioners to quickly become part of the ”bubbling local community”.
Support: Through Mötesplats Steneby we can support you in your creative plans and coach, so maybe Dals Långed will be your home and place to work.

Expectations
We want to see that you accept the challenge of testing Dals Långed with open arms – this is so much more than an artist in residence. When you apply, we want to see in your application that you have a genuine interest in experiencing Dals Långed as a resident and creative practitioner. And maybe even to stay?
Your application should include:
⋅ Motivation for why you want to test live and work in Dals Långed, max 1 A4.
⋅ CV + reference.
⋅ Where you currently live and if you have a family/partner, for example.
⋅ Emphasize what kind of workplace you are looking for and what you primarily need (e.g. material-specific workshop, office space, studio, etc.).
⋅ Is it okay to be interviewed and photographed (possibly filmed) at the end of the period, about your experience?

Assessment and judging are made by Mötesplats Steneby staff – decisions are based on the person we consider most suitable to test live and work in Dals Långed, motivation, conditions and our best ability (and Dals Långed’s) to meet what you are looking for. Not being selected is not a sign that you would not fit in the place.

You are a professional cultural practitioner within a broad interpretation of creativity; artist, musician, craftsman, writer, photographer, dancer, designer, etc.
What is included / not included
You will receive accommodation and a workplace as well as a contact person to be included in the location and coaching by Mötesplats Steneby. There is no fee, travel allowance or subsistence allowance.
